Mudavadi says this is not the era to rely on foreign aid

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has emphasized the need for Kenya and Geneva to transition from aid dependency to fostering trade and investment. He stressed that Kenya must implement immediate, radical, and strategic policy shifts to generate sufficient resources for funding critical programs. According to Mudavadi, the era of relying on aid is over, and both Kenya and Africa must urgently explore sustainable alternatives to support their economies. “The shifting global dynamics and geopolitical landscape clearly indicate that we must work toward self-reliance,” he stated. “Other countries are making strategic moves—we must act now.” Speaking at the conclusion of his official visit to Geneva, Mudavadi, who also serves as the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary, highlighted Kenya’s strategic position as a regional economic and financial hub, which gives it an advantage in pursuing economic self-sufficiency. He urged Parliament, county governments, and the e...

Atleast Five parties have left Azimio coalition

The Registrar of Political Parties has announced that at least five parties exited the Azimio la Umoja Coalition following the 2022 general elections. An updated list of registered political parties and their coalition affiliations shows that these parties left between February 2023 and December 2024. The parties include the People’s Liberation Party (formerly Narc Kenya), Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC), United Democratic Movement (UDM), Devolution Empowerment Party, and Pamoja African Alliance (PAA). This update follows a High Court directive requiring the public disclosure of political party affiliations after a petition was filed by concerned citizens. The announcement comes shortly after confusion arose due to a court ruling that affirmed Azimio la Umoja as the majority coalition in Parliament. A three-judge bench—comprising Justices John Chigiti, Jairus Ngaah, and Lawrence Mugambi—declared that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance is the legitimate majority alliance in the Nation...

Jeremiah Kioni says any little confusion will give Ruto another chance

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has warned that the ongoing divisions within the opposition could secure President William Ruto a second term if left unaddressed. Speaking on NTV, Kioni highlighted the existence of two rival factions within both the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the main opposition party, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He explained that while one faction of UDA remains loyal to the government, the other aligns with impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Similarly, ODM is split between a faction that opposes Ruto’s administration and another that is open to working with him in the 2027 elections. “As things stand, there are two distinct groups within ODM—ODM A and ODM B. The latter has decided to support the current regime in 2027, while the former is firmly against it. The same applies to UDA, where one faction backs the government (UDA A) while the other (UDA B) supports Gachagua. This dynamic has created a situation where some o...

Gachagua says Raila is the best candidate for AUC

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has endorsed Raila Odinga as the most suitable candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship. Gachagua praised Raila’s broad worldview and commitment to the African cause, asserting that these qualities make him the ideal leader to steer the continent into the future. "Kenya's finest, Raila Odinga, is undoubtedly the best bet for the African Union Commission chairmanship. Africa deserves the best," he said. He highlighted Raila’s ability to bridge linguistic and cultural divides, particularly between Anglophone and Francophone nations—an essential factor for fostering unity across the continent. "As a continent, we need a Raila Odinga character to gel the Anglophone and the Francophone selves toward the continent of the future," Gachagua added. Millie Odhiambo now says ODM is not part of the broadbased government

Suba North MP and National Assembly Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo has emphasized that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is not part of the government, despite some of its members working with it. Speaking during an interview with NTV on Wednesday, Odhiambo clarified that while ODM may be cooperating with the government, it has no formal coalition agreement with President William Ruto’s administration. “It is a legal fact that ODM is not part of the government. We may be cooperating, but we are not in the government,” she stated. She dismissed claims that ODM is part of the broad-based government, reiterating that the party remains in the opposition. “When people say ODM is in the broad-based government, I say no. We are working with the government, but we are not legally in government. We have no coalition agreement with them. That is the reality,” she affirmed. When the panel likened the situation to a "potato, potahto" scenario—suggesting that the distinction was m...

Kalonzo campaigns for magharini by election

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has described the upcoming Magarini parliamentary by-election as a crucial test run for his 2027 political ambitions. Speaking on Sunday during the launch of a Wiper office in the constituency, the former Vice President announced that his party had selected Samuel Nzai as its candidate for the by-election, which will take place once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is reconstituted. Nzai previously vied for the seat in the 2022 elections under the Narc Kenya ticket but lost to ODM’s Harrison Kombe. However, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court ruling that nullified Kombe’s election. Kalonzo emphasized that the by-election would serve as an opportunity to assess his political influence in the region as he gears up for the 2027 elections. “Wiper will field a candidate here. This will be a way to measure our strength,” he stated. President William Ruto’s UDA and Raila Odinga’s ODM are also expected to field candidates...

The ODM party has defended its Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, following his criticism of certain party members who support the broad-based government. In recent days, Sifuna has publicly called out some ODM leaders, accusing them of straying from the party's core mission of advocating for Kenyans. He lamented that some members had forgotten ODM’s roots and ideals, with some expressing fatigue over being in the opposition. "There are people in my party, ODM, who have forgotten where we came from. They have forgotten what the ODM party stands for. Some are saying they are tired of fighting for Kenyans and were not born to stay in opposition," Sifuna said on January 26. The Nairobi senator insisted he would not remain silent when things go wrong and urged those unwilling to stand by the party’s principles to leave. His remarks sparked criticism from allies of President William Ruto, with some suggesting that he should exit ODM if he no longer aligned with its current ...
