The community is urging the government, particularly the Head of State, to honor his commitment to ending abductions and extrajudicial killings. “We are tired of the harassment, extrajudicial killings, and mysterious disappearances. No one knows what happened. We are governed by the rule of law—if someone has committed an offense, they should be...

Gachagua says Uhuru Remains the unshakeable king of Mt Kenya

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now acknowledged former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the undisputed leader of the Mt. Kenya region. Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Friday, Gachagua expressed regret on behalf of the Mt. Kenya people for opposing Uhuru's endorsement of Raila Odinga during the 2022 elections. He admitted that the region had been harsh in rejecting Uhuru's support for Raila, instead favoring William Ruto. "Uhuru Kenyatta is the undisputed king of the mountain," Gachagua said, adding that many in the region now feel remorse for how they treated the former president. "We demeaned him, told him off, and embarrassed him for telling us Raila is a good man. In hindsight, we see it was unfair. His only 'crime' was endorsing Raila, and now that Ruto has also said Raila is a good man, I had to apologise to Uhuru." Gachagua explained that according to their traditions, a king in the region only makes a declaration once, which U...

Mureithi Ikinya, the mother of Trevor Mureithi, a 20-year-old first-year student at Multimedia University who was violently assaulted by anti-riot police during a peaceful protest, expressed deep sorrow and frustration following the incident. Speaking on Wednesday, Ikinya revealed that her son is scheduled to undergo surgery and voiced her disappointment with law enforcement, admitting she felt powerless to report the incident. "As an ordinary Kenyan, what can you do? Go to the police and complain to the same people who did this? We can’t stop them, and they can easily do the same to someone else," she lamented. She also raised concerns about her son's mental health, saying he would likely need counseling after the traumatic ordeal. "I just want him to recover and get back to school. He's frightened, but we hope counseling will help," Ikinya added. The brutal assault on Trevor during a student protest on September 17, 2024, has sparked national outrage. The...

Railla didn't tell ODM to work with the government

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has made it clear that ODM leader Raila Odinga hasn't sent a memo to his party members asking them to buddy up with the Kenya Kwanza government. Speaking on Thursday, Onyonka joked that if there’s any cozy arrangement between Raila and President William Ruto, it’s a secret handshake just between the two of them. "Our party leader may have had a chat with Ruto and promised to lend a hand, but he didn’t swing by the party office to tell us to help out the government," Onyonka quipped. "Until we get that memo, we’ll keep playing our part as the opposition." His comments come amidst whispers that ODM might be playing nice with the Kenya Kwanza administration, potentially forgetting its role as the watchdog. This perception has been fueled by Raila Odinga’s recent "understanding" with President Ruto, which resulted in at least five ODM members landing cushy positions in the new Cabinet. Onyonka humorously pointed out that he h...

The government has deregistered 20 recruitment agencies in a crackdown on rogue firms exploiting job seekers seeking opportunities abroad. The National Employment Authority (NEA) informed MPs that the decision was driven by the agencies' questionable practices. According to NEA, some of these recruitment agencies have been taking money from unsuspecting young people, promising to secure them jobs overseas, only to disappear after collecting the cash. The Authority noted that some of these firms are supported by influential figures within the government. NEA Director General Edith Okoki told the National Assembly Committee on Diaspora Affairs, led by Taita Taveta MP Lydia Haika, that some of these deregistered agencies have tried to re-register under new names.
